Classic Everest Trekking

This camping trek to Kala Pattar takes us right into the centre of the highest chain of mountains in the world. We are afforded memorable views of Everest and the surrounding peaks, and the enormity of the mountains instills a deep sense of exposure in you.

After a few days in Kathmandu we fly to Lukla, a small mountain airstrip deep in the Khumbu. We head to the capital of the region - 'Namche Bazaar', which has a bustling market day and a great bakery. We stop here for an extra day to assist the acclimatisation process, and to while away the time we eat cake to boost our food reserves or explore the village and its many streets before heading off into the big mountains.

Following the course of the Dudh Khosi and then the Imja Khola, we ascend past monasteries and through rhododendron and dwarf firs until we reach the alpine meadows above the tree line. We camp in spectacular locations, and our Sherpas cook delicious and nourishing meals. Dining as the sun sets at the foot of Ama Dablam is an experience you will carry with you forever. At Dingboche we have a further acclimatisation day, before the trail takes us in a more northerly direction to the Khumbu glacier and our destination - 'Kala Pattar'. The impressive Western Cwm glacier tumbles down from Mahalangur Himal, and from here the scenery is both breath-taking and unforgettable.

Retracing our steps to the Imja Khola, we descend back to Namche Bazaar with a spring in our step. The loss in altitude and increased supply of oxygen, coupled with our greater level of fitness gives us a great feeling as we head back to the airstrip at Lukla.

If you have never been to Nepal before, and were wondering what trekking in the Kingdom was like, then this trek would be a fitting introduction. Magnificent and unbeatable scenery, a historical route and classic Sherpa hospitality conspire to create a true classic.
